Irish Actors Who Made it Big!

Liam Neeson

Irish actors are sought-after in Hollywood, with their dashing good looks and charming accent.

Here is a list of the top six Irish actors who have made it big in Hollywood.

Colin Farrell

Farrell made his debut in television in 1998, in BBC’s Ballykissangel. Just a year later Farrell made his film debut, in Tim Roth‘s The War Zone. By 2000 Farrell had become a leading man, starring in Joel Schumacher’s war drama Tigerland.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers

Fellow Irishman Rhys auditioned for the role in Tigerland that eventually went to Colin Farrell. Meyers has been acting since the age of 15 and still resides in County Cork, Ireland. He had a slow start in acting, but from the late 1990s things started picking up. He has just recently become a father, at age 39.

Michael Fassbender

Fassbender was raised in the town of Killarney, by an Irish mother and German father. He came to prominence in action movies such as Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, X-Men: First Class, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, it was his dramatic roles in movies such as Shame and 12 Years a Slave that brought him critical acclaim.

Liam Neeson

Neeson has a very long and distinguished career, starting with theatre in 1976 and moving over to film in 1981 as Sir Gawain in the movie Excalibur. It was only until 1990, however, that Neeson got his first leading role in Darkman, a cult favourite.

Peter O’Toole

O’Toole was regarded as one of the greatest actors of his generation. He is one the few actors to receive an Oscar nomination for the same role in two different films – as King Henry II in Becket and for The Lion in Winter.

Pierce Brosnan

He’ll have it shaken, not stirred. Brosnan’s most well-known roles is that of British secret agent, James Bond. Brosnan was born in Drogheda, County Louth, lived in Navan, County Meath, and then moved to UK at a young age.
